In partnership with local law enforcement and social and medical professionals, Helping Hearts Children's Advocacy Center is a front-line responder to reports of child sexual and physical abuse, children/youth witnessing violence and other serious maltreatment of children/youth in Wallowa County. Helping Hearts coordinates the efforts of DHS Child Protection Staff, Law Enforcement Professionals, Family Advocates, Medical Experts and Mental Health Clinicians.
The mission of Helping Hearts is to provide a safe and friendly place for children who suffer maltreatment or witness domestic violence. At Helping Hearts children/youth can be examined by trained medical providers in as private an environment as possible and can tell their stories to trained interviewers in their own words. Helping Hearts coordinates the efforts of community partners so children don't have to repeatedly tell their stories. Helping Hearts is funded through grants and private donations. See how you can help below.
Trained interviewers create safety for children while asking non-leading, neutral questions about what may have happened to them. Interviews are videotaped, collecting effective evidence and helping reduce the number of times a child has to talk about traumatic experiences.
Medical examiners with specialized training in child abuse assessment conduct head-to-toe physical examinations accompanied by a medical interview.
Advocates assist the families during the traumatic, life-altering experience of uncovering child abuse. Advocates support the children and their non-offending family members, help coordinate victim services, make referrals and are available as needs arise following the assessment
Your support and contributions will enable us to continue supporting youth in Wallowa County.
Helping Hearts is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt non-profit organization. Helping Hearts operates its program, services and activities in compliance with federal nondiscrimination laws.
